RENEWABLE ENERGY

RENEWABLE ENERGY SERVICES AND SOLUTIONS FROM BPS GROUP

Renewable energy services and solutions aren’t the future... They are NOW. They consist of a wide range of technologies, products, and professional services aimed at generating, managing, and optimizing energy from renewable sources. These services are part of the broader effort to transition away from fossil fuels and reduce the environmental impact of energy production.

Here are some key areas which BPS can assist your business within renewable energy services and solutions.

SOLAR THERMAL SOLUTIONS

A huge amount of energy from the sun hits the surface of the earth every day. Throughout history the suns heat has been used as a form of energy – in the beginning it was used to cook food. Then we learnt to collect the sun’s energy and use it – in the form of heat or ‘solar thermal’ energy.

It can also be converted directly into electricity using devices called photovoltaic cells (PVs). Most PVs are usually made up of an element called silicon. Modern technology can use ‘solar energy’ to produce hot water, heating and electric power for homes, businesses and factories, etc.

Today solar collectors can gather solar energy in almost any climate. Solar energy technol- ogy is sometimes used in multi-megawatt electricity generating stations. A watt is a meas- urement of power, or the rate of energy flow (for example, a 60 watt light bulb requires 60 watts just to be lit) – and not the time it takes to use 1 watt of electricity.

A watt hour – is an amount of energy. It is defined as one watt of power sustained for one hour. For example, a 13-watt lamp operating for 6 hours would consume (13 W) x (6 hrs) = 78 watt hours. A kilowatt is 1,000 watts and a megawatt is 1,000,000 watts. Small plate col- lectors capture heat from the sun, while solar thermal power plants use various concentrat- ing equipment to focus sunlight and achieve the high temperatures necessary to produce steam for power.

Combined Heating Power

Combined Heating Power (CHP) or co-generation as it’s sometimes called, is the process of capturing and then utilising the heat produced by generating electricity. Conventional electricity generation by power stations is only around 37% efficient, which means a huge potential source of energy is simply released into the atmosphere as a by-product. CHP can harness this power.

What are the business benefits of installing CHP?
In short, CHP delivers great value energy. By recovering most of this otherwise wasted heat, CHP can bring overall energy savings of up to 40 per cent. For an energy intensive develop- ment, that can represent a substantial saving, especially when combined with other energy efficiency measures.
Are there any environmental benefits?
CHP has been widely recognised as a key measure in helping to reduce harmful emissions of CO2, with some schemes being shown to halve emissions compared with conventional sources of heat and power.
How does CHP fit in with tri-generation?
CHP can be incorporated into a tri-generation scheme to provide heating, power and cooling from the same source . Here the excess heat produced is cooled by absorption chillers linked to the CHP system. This produces chilled water for cooling, which is particularly useful for schemes which involve a large level of air conditioning.
So what makes BPS different?
The suitability of CHP and tri-generation to provide electrical power, heating and cooling requires a detailed appraisal of many factors, not just heat and electricity requirements. Such is our experience of CHP and tri-generation that BPS is uniquely positioned to offer a complete turnkey solution from feasibility and design through to financing, supply, installation and commissioning.

AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) are energy-efficient systems used for heating and cooling residential and commercial buildings. They work by transferring heat between the inside of a building and the outside air.

Their key benefits are their energy efficiency, Lower Carbon Footprint, (They produce fewer emissions compared to conventional heating systems, especially when powered by renew- able energy sources like solar or wind power.), Year-Round Comfort and they require less maintenance compared to traditional heating and cooling systems like furnaces or boilers.

GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP

Ground Source Heat Pump is an energy-efficient technology used for heating and cooling buildings. It utilizes the stable temperature of the ground to transfer heat, making it an effective way to provide comfort while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

They are more efficient than air-source heat pumps or conventional heating systems like gas or oil boilers and have a much lower carbon footprint compared to fossil fuel-based heating systems.

BOILERS & CENTRAL HEATING

Keeping your home or office warm is a neccessity and we can provide the solution if you your central heating system to be upgrated or installed. We have sucessfully installed Combi, system and regualr boilers in hundreds of homes and offices. Boilers can be used with various fuels - gas, oil, electric and can be controlled and regulated with a thermostatic control unit and programme timers. If your boiler is old and inefficient, or if you’re considering a major home renovation, you might want to think about upgrading your central heating system. Modern A-rated condensing boilers are much more energy-efficient, and upgrading could help reduce energy bills in the long run.
